In the first period of the Washington Capitals’ game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Capital One Arena on Saturday, Nick Jensen required evacuation from the ice on a stretcher.
At 18:29, Jensen collided forcefully with the boards after a hit from Lightning forward Michael Eyssimont while trying to dump the puck into the offensive zone. Notably, no penalty was assessed against Eyssimont for the incident.
Medical staff attended to Jensen on the ice for approximately five minutes before he was carefully stretchered off. Following this, both teams were directed to the locker rooms, with the remaining 1:31 of the first period scheduled to resume after the intermission.
The Capitals announced that Jensen “is conscious, alert, and has full use of all his extremities.” The team’s medical personnel will continue to monitor his condition.
This season, Jensen has accumulated 14 points, comprising one goal and 13 assists, across 77 games for the Capitals (37-31-11). The team currently trails the Pittsburgh Penguins by one point for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference standings, as they aim for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
